Ray Allmaras served as Research Leader and supervisory soil scientist at the USDA-ARS Columbia Plateau Conservation Research Center, Pendleton, Oregon, from 1971 to 1984. His research sought to quantify the influence of climate, topography, cultural practices, and soil properties on runoff and soil erosion. He used runoff and erosion experiments to improve the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation, and to better define water and sediment quality as related to soil management. This presentation reviews his research contributions to soil conservation in the inland Pacific Northwest.
