  • Abstract:
    1. Rice production is linked to water and water is becoming increasingly scarce and expensive in Asia, Africa and the US.

     2. IRRI scientists have a long history and deep involvement investigating rice production in Asia under a range of water management conditions. ARFUSA is sponsoring young researchers to conduct their research in Asia in collaborating with scientists there.

     3. This year we are inviting proposals for investigations that will enable farmers in Asia or Africa to grow more rice with less water per kilogram of rice. Proposals for applied research that would link students to scientists at IRRI are especially encouraged. Research might focus on :
       - Agronomic approaches
       - Genetic approaches (traditional or genetic engineering)
       - Managerial approaches
       - Policies to encourage greater water productivity on rice

     4. In past years awards went for work that supported:
List examples of award projects and people.
