Abstract:
The gasification of poultry litter produces an ash byproduct that will be alkaline and contain plant essential macro- and micro- nutrients. Therefore, there may be a beneficial reuse for this byproduct as a fertilizer and soil amendment for agricultural production. The objectives of this study were to 1) determine the lime and nutrient value of a litter ash, 2) correlate standard soil testing measures of nutrient availability to greenhouse plant response and uptake in radish and spinach, and 3) quantify the accumulation of hazardous elements Pb, Ni, Cd, and As in radish and spinach.
