Abstract:
This talk focuses on Rien van Genuchten’s vital contributions to the development of solute transport theory and its widespread application to problem-solving in research and environmental management and decision-making. In this respect, I will especially focus on the important role he has played in developing models capable of describing complex phenomena (e.g. preferential flow and transport, non-linear non-equilibrium chemical reactions) and, equally (and even critically) important, supporting the wider scientific and engineering community by developing and disseminating a range of useable software tools and parameterization methodologies to support them.
