Abstract:
NESTA (the National Earth Science Teachers Association) strives to advance, stimulate, extend, improve, and coordinate Earth Science education at all educational levels, especially K – 12 programs. In recent years, NESTA has undertaken new challenges identified through an NSF-supported strategic planning workshop, which will strengthen its print, electronic, and conference-based resources for Earth Science teachers. NESTA sponsors share-a-thons at national and regional National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) conferences, from which participants can return to their students with dozens of classroom-tested activities. NESTA also sponsors "Earth and Space Science Days" at the NSTA National Conference on Science Education in cooperation with NASA, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, and other organizations. NESTA's quarterly journal, The Earth Scientist, provides articles that can be immediately used by teachers and their students. New web-based resources are under development, along with other expanded on-line resources to connect members with the latest developments and opportunities for K – 12 educators.
