Oral Session

Non-point source pollution (NPS) often contains a suite of water contaminants. Increasingly, NPS dischargers must comply with water quality regulations and implement management practices to reduce contamination. Constructed and restored wetlands (CRWs) are one of many practices that growers can employ to mitigate NPS. This symposium will focus on the ability of CRWs to remove a variety of pollutants common to NPS. Presentations can focus on potential adverse effects to these systems, including accumulation of metals, emerging contaminants, increased salinity, mosquito habitat, and greenhouse gas emissions. Wetland management and design features that reduce adverse effects, while optimizing contaminant removal will be covered.
