Forages of Florida Website: Tool of the Trade.

Information on forages and grasslands in Florida is an essential resource to the livestock industry because they almost entirely rely upon these feeding resources whether they are native, or introduced forages.  Approximately a third of the acreage in Florida is devoted to farmland and partially or totally devoted to livestock production.  Having acces to this information is critical because of their role and importance for protecting the environment through preservation of wildlife habitat, protection of water supplies, and preservation of green space in a state that is quickly changing its urban/rural ratio.  The extension  Forages of Florida webpage focuses on forages and addresses forage related topics for the state of Florida presenting the information in a centralized manner to serve the needs of clientele such as new or traditional landowners, extension faculty, faculty and students in general, in need of an outreach web-based resource that is updated and easy to access.  The webpage content is organized into several sections: a) Getting Started and Species of Florida b) Growing Zones and Regional Forage/Livestock Groups c) Management d) Problems e) Uses.
