A study was conducted to evaluate the spatial deposition of ammonia surrounding a swine production facility in a semi-arid ecosystem. Previous studies have focused on more humid environments with sustained wind speeds at very low levels. This study evaluated the bulk depositional gradient of ammonia in a low humidity environment where sustained wind speeds average 6.5 m s-1, nearly twice those of other studies. Radial transects were set up to measure and monitor the bulk deposition of ammonia on a monthly basis. Variable wind speeds have greatly influenced the depositional patterns of ammonia.
