Symposium--Can Global Food / Fiber Security and Environmental Quality be Simultaneously Achieved?

Oral Session

SSSA Cross-Divisional Symposium

Sponsored by Cotton, Monsanto Company, USDA-ARS, and USDA-NRCS.

This SSSA-wide symposium will address the large role of soil science collaborations to address the growing dichotomy of achieving sufficient food/fiber production and mainintaining/increasing environmental quality for the future. Some perspectives: (1) Through resource intensity at the local scale? (2) Through ecologically based management at the watershed level? (3) Is there common ground between biotechnology and agroecological science? (4) How can silviculture and biofuel production systems jumpstart sustainable developments? (5) Is there a role for greater SSSA interdisciplinary teamwork?
