Triticale is developed from a rye x wheat cross. Therefore, many producers are concerned about triticale possessing the same potential to be a serious weed like rye. Post harvest seed dormancy evaluation indicated that triticale dormancy levels similar to hard red winter wheat. Some winter triticale lines have facultative character. Winter hardy triticale with facultative character can produce seed from either spring or fall germination. The facultative triticale can be weeds in either spring or fall seeded cereal grain crops. The frequency of the facultative character in a triticale germplasm is being evaluated and eliminated through spring seeding of winter triticale development lines.
