Historically, research into agronomic and environmental aspects of phosphorus (P) has focused on inorganic P.  However, soil organic P (Po) dynamics are also important for sustainable crop production and surface water quality. Research is needed to better identify and quantify Po forms in soil-water systems, as this knowledge could reduce unneeded P inputs to cropland, decrease in P loss risk, and increase P use efficiency.
