Oral Session
S10 Wetland SoilsThe symposium will focus on methods and equipment needed for collecting samples and measuring bulk density in saturated and subaqueous soils. These low-clay soils stay saturated continuously. They have low-strength that causes them to liquefy when extracted, or to slump into a pit or auger hole. This makes extraction of a clean sample nearly impossible without special equipment. Innovative methods of sampling and determining bulk density are needed to allow us to accurately characterize high carbon and sandy soils that play such an important role in the greenhouse gas cycle both as sinks and sources.
