339 Nitrous Oxide Emissions From Agricultural Production Systems

Oral Session
S11 Soils & Environmental Quality

Hundreds of studies over the past few decades have measured nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from agricultural cropping and animal production systems. However, there are relatively few methodologies which are proven and generally accepted for mitigating N2O emissions. The documentation of effective mitigation is more important than ever, as the possibility of marketable carbon offsets in the form of alternative agricultural practices becomes increasingly likely. The goal of this session is to discuss efforts which have demonstrated effective N2O mitigation, and preferably at the same time have assessed impacts on yields, production, and/or other agronomic and economic measures.
