The cultivation of a renewed conservation and environmental ethic among Iowans is key to the adoption of a wide range of ecologically sound land management practices. Iowa Learning Farms designed a versatile, self-contained, climate-controlled mobile Conservation Station, to improve the environmental literacy of all Iowans, to increase awareness of soil and water quality issues, and to inspire individuals to adopt conservation practices on the land. The Conservation Station is housed in a 22-foot trailer and features a portable rainfall simulator, multimedia learning lab, and interactive hands-on activities for audiences of all ages. The Conservation Station is a highly effective tool for conservation education and outreach, promoting innovative strategies, exchanging ideas, and inspiring dialogue among farmers, educators, scientists, government agencies, and citizens across the state, and has been seen by over 3000 people since its launch in May 2010.
