Green Mentoring.

The Green Mentoring Program teams university faculty with high school students to develop and implement environmental and sustainability projects. Through creating and carrying out these “green” projects, students become aware of environmental issues and learn to adopt an attitude of social responsibility. In addition to enhancing their studies in the physical and social sciences, participation in the Green Mentoring Program enables students to collaborate with peers and academic experts while connecting with the arena of higher education as well as concerned individuals in their communities. By guiding young adults in the advancement of projects that employ and support sustainability practices, Green Mentoring builds awareness of the importance of commitment to conserving and improving our environment. The initial year of the Program will run at National University, headquartered in La Jolla, California.

            The demand for environmentally themed courses and programs of study is rapidly growing in the U.S. and throughout the world. Additionally, as investments in new ventures in alternative energy and clean technology continue to rise, there will be a need for individuals with the passion, know-how, and entrepreneurial spirit to build a viable and sustainable future. Genuinely beneficial outcomes in sustainability through energy-economy, innovation, conservation of resources, and alignment of human values with a holistic environmental vision are goals shared by all concerned citizens and members of the global community. In order to realize these goals, teachers, higher-education experts, and educational institutions must embrace programs, projects, and initiatives that are dedicated to environmental conservation, social responsibility, and sustainability. The Green Mentoring Program is a step in that direction.
