  • Abstract:
    The Cotton Improvement Laboratory (CIL), Texas A&M University Agrilife Research, has developed Extra Long Staple (ELS) upland cotton germplasm through upland / upland crosses and subsequent pedigree selection. High Volume Instrument (HVI) and Advanced Fiber Instrument System (AFIS) fiber quality measurements and mini-spinning performance have verified that these germplasm lines represent a unique germplasm pool that should be of value in developing cultivars with improved fiber quality. Braden et al. and Smith et al. previously reported that the common parent of these ELS lines produced progeny with transgressive segration for fiber length. Data will be reported on the distribution of HVI and AFIS fiber parameters from F2 populations produced by crossing medium fiber length upland parents with ELS upland parents and ELS / ELS parents.
