Abstract:
“Sum ergo cogito (I am therefore I think)!” This ‘human-in-ecosystem’  perspective is a way to think about the relationship between nature and society and about the interfaces between the two. Linking ecological and social systems is a cross-scale issues. Reaching a serviceable understanding of the sustainability, dynamics, resilience and stewardship of this complex socio-ecological systems will require a stronger push to advance cross-disciplinary education and research characterized by consilience, contextualization, and cultural diversity. In this presentation, the story of Dr. Bert Tanner will be shared as a role model in building resilience-based stewardship in our social-ecological system toward sustainability.
