Abstract:
The authors will present a number of ideas and approaches on how to formulate and execute a plan culminating in a grant application.  The goal of the session is to provide a framework based on the many experiences of the authors and others, which should allow a rapid start for individuals as they enter their professional academic careers.  In addition, the author will include ideas and approaches useful to any individual seeking grant funds.  Participants will be taken through the grant writing process including: 1) project and idea development, 2) understanding the request (RFP)/guidelines, 3) proposal pre-planning, 4) approaches to budgeting, 5) when and how to work with collaborators, and 6) the review process and beyond.   A detailed discussion of proposal writing issues and issues related to group projects will highlight this year’s presentation.  This presentation draws from the experiences of the authors in proposal development and their service on numerous state and federal proposal review panels.  The authors will also provide a number of ideas on how to manage your initial project start up following a successful grant submission.
