  • Abstract:
Selenium has been detected in the drainage waters from surface mines in southern West Virginia at concentrations above the water quality limit. A Zero-Valent Iron (steel wool) - based treatment system is one proposed remediation technology. Our objective is to determine the effect of redox, pH, electrolyte type and concentration on selenium removal by steel wool, and to quantify Se species post-treatment.
