Abstract:
SmartStax™ corn insect trait technology is being jointly developed by Dow AgroSciences and Monsanto.  SmartStax is an 8-gene stacked product, which combines the insect protection of HERCULEX® Insect Protection and YieldGard™ trait families.  SmartStax will deliver increased grower yields through reduced refuge and the broadest spectrum of insect control available.  Pending EPA registration, SmartStax corn hybrids are expected to be available for 2010 planting.

Field trial results will be summarized in this presentation (from 2007-2009) that validate the SmartStax product concept.  SmartStax will provide the most comprehensive protection against corn rootworm and corn borers, as well as established and emerging insects including corn earworm and western bean cutworm.

SmartStax presents two or more independent modes of action against each major target pest, dramatically reducing the chance of resistance evolving and providing the safest approach for reducing refuge sizes.
