661 Soil Moisture: Advances in Design and Development of Water Content, Matric Potential, and Flux Measurement Methods for the Critical Zone: I

Oral Session
S01 Soil Physics
This session presents recent developments in design, developments, and applications of techniques for measuring soil-water content, soil-water matric potential, and soil-water flux at different depth and scale in the soil vadose zone. Techniques include dielectric (e.g. Time Domain Reflectometry) and thermal methods (e.g. Heat Pulse) for water content and flux, and tensiometer-based methods and porous matrix sensors for matric potential. The session will cover both numerical analysis and laboratory and field tests regarding sensitivity, accuracy, and scale when measuring and monitoring the soil moisture status, storage, flux and evaporation from the critical zone.
