Abstract:
Many long term experiments have been conducted with the goal of determining soil organic carbon maintenance requirements under a variety of systems. Many of these experiments have critical errors making it impossible to determine carbon budgets. This paper discusses techniques to over come these problems. Findings from historical studies will be reanalyzed to develop general carbon storage guidelines. The critical problems and solutions associated with calculating maintenance rates will be discussed.
