Abstract:
The University of Florida Agronomy and Soils Club is very active in the surrounding community. This year our members have built a relationship with Lincoln Middle School, with the objective of educating students about the importance of agriculture. The middle school provided a small garden area where club members taught the students how to prepare the soil, plant seeds and care for the garden. In addition, club members spent time in the classroom explaining the importance of agriculture in our local community as well as around the globe. These experiences allowed our club members to communicate with the children and to introduce agronomy as a science that is necessary in order for our world to continue to thrive. As members of the Agronomy and Soils Club we feel that it is our duty to educate the youth because they are the future of farming.
