Abstract:
Currently, cropland in the South is predominantly concentrated on the soils of the Mississippi delta and the Coastal Plain. Early settlers preferred the soils of the Piedmont to the Coastal Plain. This poster employs snapshots in time to tract the shift of cropland from the Piedmont to the Coastal Plan and suggests reasons for the shift. Particular emphasis will be placed on land devoted to cotton.
