71 Symposium--Experiential Learning and Action Education: I

Oral Session
ASA Section: Education & Extension There is current excitement and growing application of the educational ideas in experiential learning. From the early work of John Dewey, through the theories and applications of David Kolb, and the social consciousness of Paulo Freire, the focus on learning directed toward responsible action is coming to pervade our forward thinking about education in agriculture and other applied fields. Exemplified by the ASA publication on case studies [American Society of Agronomy, 2006], this teaching/learning strategy is becoming an integral part of many university agronomy courses. This symposium will emphasize this exciting area of learning.
