S03 Soil Biology & Biochemistry Biological activity is found in soils of all ecosystems facing permanent or recurrent cold conditions. Nevertheless, knowledge about soil functioning under cold conditions is still scant. This knowledge is essential to comprehend the impacts of, and adapt to climate change. This symposium aims at presenting the most recent advances in our understanding of nutrient cycling, soil-water-atmosphere exchanges, and biological community functioning in soils under cold, freezing, frozen and thawing conditions. This will be the opportunity to discuss about tools and techniques suitable to assess soil biological functioning under these conditions.
