Land application of biochar can potentially be used to help combat global warming by enhancing soil carbon sequestration because of its recalcitrant nature in the environment. Biochar application can also influence the physical, chemical and biological processes in soil ecosystems. Environmental Functions of Biochar session will focus on the effects of biochar on soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics in relation to greenhouse gas emission, soil nutrient transformations and leaching, and environmental fate of organic compounds.
