Western Kansas is a large winter wheat production region. In this region, the relatively arid environment allows for different management of nitrogen (N) fertilizer. The objective of this study was to evaluate the N response from Kansas and develop N recommendation strategies based on NDVI. Nitrogen response and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) data has been collected from this region that shows the prediction of response from NDVI and the response data at harvest. This data has been assembled into N recommendation models that has been used in conjunction with the Kansas State University Soil Testing Laboratory to aid wheat producers in applying the correct N rate to their crop.
