Fall applied fungicides on turf grass have been detected in snow melt runoff in the north-central United States. A multi-residue method was developed to extract and analyze three fungicides, quintozene, iprodione, and chlorthalonil, in addition to its major degradation product, 4-hydroxychlorothalonil simultaneously. Water samples were spiked with these four compounds, plus the herbicide linuron as a surrogate, and then extracted using a C18 SPE cartridge. An aliquot of the extract eluate was analyzed by LC/MS with detection limits below 50 ppb. Details of the multi-residue method and results from the extraction and analysis of snow melt runoff will be discussed.
