158 Fate and Transport of Organic Contaminants

Oral Session
S11 Soils & Environmental Quality A broad range of organic micropollutants enter soil via agricultural and urban activities. These include persistent organic contaminants, human and veterinary pharmaceuticals, natural and synthetic hormones, surfactants, plasticizers, herbicides, insecticides, fire retardants, personal care products, perfluorochemicals, engineered nanoparticles and others. This session will cover novel advances and concepts in a number of areas including, but not limited to, analytical techniques, sorption and transport in soil, occurrence and fate in soils/sediments, biotic and abiotic transformations, contaminant occurrence and fate in wastewater treatment systems and receiving waters, transport and fate of engineered nanoparticles, wastewater discharge of endocrine disrupting compounds, and groundwater contamination.
