Effects of Winter Feeding Round Bales On Costal Bermudagrass Re-Establishment In the Cross Timbers Region.

The effects of winter feeding “round bales” of hay on Coastal Bermudagrass (Coastal) re-establishment were studied. At the beginning, during and at the end of winter feeding, soil resistance, soil electrical conductivity, and soil pH were examined a one month intervals. Following winter feeding, eight different treatments were applied. Treatments include mechanical manipulation by tandem-disc harrow, addition of lime, addition of Verd-E-Cal G©, addition of Remediator©, tadem-disc harrow combined with lime, tadem-disc harrow combined with Verd-E-Cal G© , -disc harrow combined with Remediator© , and a control of no treatment. The re-establishment of Coastal was measured by percent ground coverage within each plot at two week intervals for eight measurements. In August 2011, forage yields will be acquired, dried and measured. Finally, forage quality will be analyzed at the Texas AgriLife Research Center (Stephenville, Texas).
