Abstract:
Today, everywhere you look, someone is telling us why and how we should go “Green”.  However, “Green” is nothing new to today’s agronomists and producers.  The Texas A&M Agronomy Club, over the years, has strived to do our fair share for the “Going Green” revolution.  During the past year we have been involved in three “clean and green” projects contributing to the Bryan/College Station community

Texas A&M is known for holding one of the nation’s largest single-day community service projects in the United States.  The Big Event traditionally occurs on a Saturday in April.  This year, our Big Event assignment was to help an elderly woman in Bryan who needed help with her large yard.  Members of the club armed with shovels, rakes, etc. did a large “replant” project on her property leaving it cleaner and keeping it green.

The Texas A&M Agronomy Society continues to maintain the garden plot in Bryan in conjunction with the Elder Aid organization.  Each year the club insures that the plot gets weeded, tilled and planted with a wide variety of vegetables for the local residents.  This year we planted the garden following the Big Event project.

We initiated a new project in the Fall of 2007.  The T.A.M.U. Agronomy Society joined the College Station “Adopt-A-Street” program by adopting a two-mile road segment in south College Station.  Our mission is to clean the street four times a year so we do a “trash walk” at the beginning and end of each semester.  Members of the neighborhood appreciate the work that we do to keep the street clean and safe for their children and appealing to their eyes.

From planting gardens to picking up two miles of trash, the Texas A&M Agronomy Society is actively working to make our community both cleaner and greener.
