Abstract:
This poster summarizes some of the major considerations in the management of nitrogen (N) as presented by other authors in the ASA Monograph revision entitled “Nitrogen in Agricultural Systems”. Integration of many factors and considerations is essential in developing N management strategies. Advanced analytical and sensor technologies have made it possible to more accurately and readily characterize the fate and transport of N in the environment while computer based technologies have resulted in management tools and decision aids to facilitate the decision making process of consultants and producers. Weather remains the major uncertainty in N management and when imposed on a spatially variable topography that supports variable nutrient needs of crops, the decision making process becomes even more complex. Several scenarios are presented in this Monograph chapter and illustrated in the poster.
