The main objective of this research was to evaluate the allelophatic substances produced by sunflower residues as natural herbicides on common weeds in onion. The experiment was carried out in Morelos, Mexico under irrigation conditions evaluating five treatments differing the amount of sunflower residues (T1=2.5, T2=3.0, T3=3.5, T4=4.0 ton ha-1, and T5=chemical control). Those treatments were evaluated under a Randomized Complete Block design with four replications. Response variables on weed were foliar area, dry weight, bulb diameter and bulb yield. Analyses of variances indicated significant differences (P<0.01) among treatments where the T3 treatment was the best treatment for reducing the growing rate of weeds.
