J. Edward King, Jeff Edwards, Paul Neese, and Gary Thompson. Dow AgroSciences, 9330 Zionsville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268

Dow AgroSciences LLC, through its affiliate Mycogen Seeds, and Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc have been working since 1995 to jointly develop novel biotech products for the control of insect pests of maize. In 2003, Herculex® I Insect Protection was the first product released for sale under the Herculex family of traits. Herculex I expresses Cry1F insecticidal protein from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) strain aizawai, and provides broad-spectrum protection against lepidopterous pests of maize. Herculex® RW Rootworm Protection expresses two insecticidal proteins, Cry34Ab1 and Cry35Ab1, which have been derived from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) strain PS149B1, and provides a high level of control against western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera), northern corn rootworm (Diabrotica barberi), and Mexican corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera zeae). Herculex® XTRA Insect Protection will combine the broad-spectrum protection of Herculex I with the corn rootworm protection of Herculex RW. This poster will provide the latest updates on commercialization, registration and research on the Herculex family of traits.
