Inorganic fertilizer management issues have moved beyond individual farms and managers to watershed and political levels. Mississippi has a rich history in fertilizer development and utilization; this paper examines fertilizer utilization trends in the state as affected by Experiment Station based research, soil testing services, animal manure utilization, commercial fertilizer production and marketing, and Extension Service soil fertility recommendations from the 1930’s to present day.
