Creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.) is highly susceptible to dollar spot disease caused by the fungus Sclerotinia homoeocarpa. Colonial bentgrass (A. capillaris L.) is a related species that has good dollar spot resistance and may be a source of genes or alleles for improvement of dollar spot resistance in creeping bentgrass. We are currently working on generating a genetic linkage map for colonial bentgrass with the ultimate goal of identification of the colonial bentgrass genes conferring the observed dollar spot resistance. Marker development and progress to date will be presented.
