Comparison of a Grid-Based Soil Erosion Model with Field Measurements.

Carlos A. Bonilla, John M. Norman, and Christine C. Molling. University of Wisconsin, Soil Science Department, 1525 Observatory Dr., Madison, WI 53706

This presentation introduces a more realistic approach for soil erosion prediction in complex landscapes. Implemented in a computer model, this approach predicts soil detachment, transport, and deposition for events that occur on actual farm fields, estimating soil erosion in the rill and interrill on a 2-D grid network, works with high temporal resolution to resolve changing conditions during rainfall events, and responds to a wide range of agricultural practices and soil properties by building on existing knowledge. Model predictions are compared with two years of field measurements in different sites in Wisconsin.
