Biotechnology has been implemented into crops to enhance production while providing a way to survive the increase of insect and weed pressure. Two new forms of biotechnology in cotton are the second generation of both Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) and glyphosate resistance, which are aimed at improving the convenience and economic feasibility of cotton production. However, these technologies are still very new and have not been completely tested for effects in production cotton. We compared a second generation Bt/glyphosate-resistant variety (SureGrow 215 Roundup Ready Flex / Bollgard II) with a first generation Bt/glyphosate-resistant variety with a related genetic background.
