Nitrogen and Plant Growth Regulator Effects on Creeping Bentgrass Quality, Dollar Spot Incidence, and Annual Bluegrass Infestation.

One granular and two foliar fertilizer programs were applied alone and in combination with the plant growth regulators paclobutrazol (Trimmit) and trinexapac-ethyl (Primo Maxx). Foliar fertilization with nitrogen (N) had a positive effect on reducing Sclerotinia homoeocarpa (dollar spot) incidence. Foliar fertilization at 12.2 kg N ha-1 every week reduced dollar spot (DS) incidence relative to other fertilizer/no PGR treatments. Trimmit provided a significant reduction in dollar spot severity with or without fertilizer. Foliar or granular fertilizers in combination with Trimmit resulted in the least DS among all other treatments. Primo alone or in combination with fertilizer did not enhance DS incidence relative to comparable fertilizer/no Primo treatments. Annual bluegrass populations will be reported among the fertilizer and PGR treatments.
